Koelle, Sigismund Wilhelm : Polyglotta africana, or a comparative vocabulary of nearly three hundred words and phrases in more than one hundred distinct African languages (> détail). Langue : orungu (mye) Enquête : Da: <1854 ; “From N·gū́ba, or William Johnson, of Freetown, born in the town of Yān·gayán·ge, on the sea coast, where he was kidnapped by the Mpón·gwes, in his twenty-fourth year. He has been in Sierra Leone about eighteen years, with ten country-people, of whom his wife is one. He had some difficulty in remembering the words I asked for, and I could not get any plural forms from him. Also from n·gōámōre, or Ambrose Cole, of Hastings, born in the town of Apū́mānt, on the island of Apū́mānt, whence he was brought to Sierra Leone about thirty years ago, when a boy about fifteen years of age. What is from him in the specimens is always preceded by “or;” but it seems to be quite a different dialecte. I went over them twice with him, and had to alter very little, yet he had forgotten a few words.”.
